What the standard is
A process, not an ingredient list.
The Plainview Skin Purity Standard™ defines how our tallow is sourced, rendered, formulated and handled to preserve lipid stability, purity and functional integrity. It applies from cattle nutrition through to finished skincare.
It exists so our products are consistent, well tolerated and deliberately produced — rather than opportunistically sourced and cosmetically corrected after the fact.
Why it exists
Most tallow skincare focuses on what is excluded — fragrances, chemicals, additives — but rarely defines how the fat itself is produced, stabilised or protected.
Fat-based skincare is sensitive to sourcing, oxidation and formulation choices. Process control matters as much as the ingredient list. This standard addresses those variables directly, with clarity and restraint.
What the lab found
We don’t ask you to take our word for it.
“Clean,” “natural” and “pure” have no legal definition in skincare. Any brand can print them on any jar and nobody checks. So we send the base ingredient — the tallow itself, before it becomes a balm — to an independent lab, and publish what comes back.

Tested for what nobody tests for
Heavy metals, PFAS and glyphosate — all undetected. This is the reason source matters more in a fat-based product than a water-based one: fat is where an animal stores what it takes in over a lifetime. That is physiology, not an accusation about anyone else’s jar. It simply means that when the base ingredient is a fat, knowing the animal stops being a nice detail and becomes the thing that matters most.

Palmitoleic acid — a fatty acid your own skin already produces — at twice the level found in other tallow. It is one of the reasons our tallow reads as familiar to skin rather than as something foreign sitting on top of it.

Polyunsaturated fat is the part that oxidises and turns rancid. Ours contains 54% less of it than grain-fed tallow — which is why a jar keeps for months in a warm bathroom without going off, and why we don’t need fragrance to cover anything up.

Numbers are only worth something if you can feel them. That ≈55% skin-compatible fat is why it melts the moment it touches you rather than sitting on top waiting to absorb — its makeup is close to the oils your skin already produces. Low PUFA is why a jar keeps for months in a warm bathroom without turning. And a 1.87:1 omega balance isn’t something you can feel at all — it’s simply the difference between fat from cattle raised on a diet we control and fat bought by the drum.
The five principles
What we hold ourselves to.
Source-controlled fat
All tallow in Plainview skincare comes from cattle raised within our own nutrient-optimised system. No commodity trim, no mixed-origin fat, no opportunistic sourcing. Most tallow skincare is made from fat bought by the drum and pooled from countless animals across countless farms — there is no thread to pull. Ours is traceable from the start.
Stability-first rendering
Rendering and handling are designed to minimise oxidation and preserve the natural structure of the fat. Commodity tallow typically arrives RBD — refined, bleached, deodorised — which strips out colour and smell, the only two clues you would otherwise have about what you are holding. We address stability at the process level rather than correcting it later with masking agents.
Minimal, functional formulation
No industrial seed oils, water, emulsifiers, preservatives or fillers that dilute or destabilise a fat-based formulation. Where complementary oils are used, they are chosen for stability and skin compatibility — not for trend or ideology.
Purity over perfumery
Freshness and usability come from process control, never from scent masking. Our balms are scented with essential oils and botanical infusions, and we are open about which — but scent is a choice, not a cover. We do not use fragrance to conceal instability or oxidation, and nothing hides behind the word “parfum.” If a formulation cannot stand on its own unscented, it does not meet the standard.
Intentional, traceable batches
Each batch is made deliberately, with consistency and handling prioritised over volume. The goal is repeatability and integrity, not maximum output.
What the standard does not claim
A standard is only credible if it is honest about its limits. The Plainview Skin Purity Standard™:

- Promises no specific outcomes beyond general skin barrier support
- Relies on no ancestral, traditional or belief-based language
- Does not attempt to replace professional medical guidance
